Bennett was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. He graduated from Princeton University in 1993, attended Naropa Institute and practiced the healing art of Jin Shin in Colorado for four years.
In 1998, he moved to the Big Island of Hawaii, where he co-founded Kohala Institute (formerly New Moon Foundation) and Touching the Earth farm. He has since co-founded the Kohala Village HUB and the Blue Dragon Restaurant, and co-owns Heartwood Institute in Northern Califormia. All of these organizations seek to improve humanity’s impact on the world through value-based, sustainable practices that function to improve our relationship with ourselves, each other, and the world we live in.
Bennett is also actively involved with the Dorrance Family Foundation and Enterprises in Arizona. His greatest joy is being a father to his three kids: Orion, Jax and Aurora.
At the age of 25, in 1982, Donna founded the first natural foods bakery & cafe in Alaska focused on local and organic cuisine. In 1992 she launched AH!LASKA, a national brand, offering the first organic cocoa and chocolate syrup in the nation and authored her first book.
She has founded and run several other green companies and in 2010 was awarded small business owner of the year in Alaska. She is in the process of completing her second book and launching a new green company.
Donna graduated from the Evergreen State College Organic Farm Program, with a degree in Social Ecology. In 2011 she graduated from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition as a Certified Transformation Wellness Coach and now works with eco-entrepreneurs. She resides on a farmstead in Hawi Hawaii with her husband Kevin and has resided on the board since its inception.
Anne Strawbridge resides in Kohala, where she is Co owner and creator of a 20 acre farm. “Pa Ka Makani Farm” is committed to the transformation of the Whole Food Systems by using agricultural practices that are sustainable, revitalizing, balanced and harmonious. She has an interest inho ticulture, and ecology, and has a passion for supporting educational programs and projects that create environmental sustainability, food production, and provide for a better way of life.
In the Philadelphia area, she helped establish summer youth programs benefiting city youth-at-risk through a community garden project titled “Back to Roots”
Internationally, she has supported the building of a school for the education and caring of children in a remote impoverished area of South Africa. She has supported outreach programs that provide food for emergency kitchens, shelters, daycare centers and senior centers.
Anne is the Executive producer of a coming of age education program: “From Bud to Flower”, a Menarche Kit for young girls. She enjoys creating programs for youth that empower and provide for self-discovery.
As a new member of the Kohala community, Anne is looking forward to applying her skills and passions towards developing programs that will inspire models of sustainability and conscious healthy living.
Andrew Strawbridge is a resident of Hawi, HI and is a co-owner and creator of the 20 acre “Pa Ka Makani Farm” dedicated to environmental stewardship through using sustainable practices in agriculture, architecture, green building practices, horticulture, and ecology. Andrew has a keen interest and commitment to the transformation of the food system. He practices this on his own farm by enriching the soil, capturing rain water, and using organic methods. His farm is entirely off-grid and self sustainable.
Andrew has been a longstanding supporter of arts and cultural programs in the communities he has resided in. For 15 years he was IT manager for the Mann Music Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia, redesigning a complex access network for both staff and artists. He has worked as a professional photographer with a focus on people, nature, and animals.
Andrew’s interests include supporting programs that feed people in need and provide food availability to remote places in the world. He believes that clean water, alternative energy, and healthy food should be available to all beings.
