There is always something enriching to do, see, and learn at the HUB! Our facilities can host a variety of events and programs. 

HĀNAI KOHALA

"Hānai" means to adopt, to be close; to nourish, to sustain. Please join us for our Hanai Kohala Workshops featuring hands on, learn "how to" and "what to do" with specific foods. 

Hānai Kohala is a series of 3 workshops offered through the remainder of the year on the third Saturday of odd months (July, September, & November):

Jul 15 | Lamb
9:00am-12:00pm
Participants will learn how to breakdown a lamb carcass.

Sep 16 | Probiotics/Fermentation
9:00am-12:00pm

Participants will learn how to make probiotic, enzyme-rich fermented foods and beverages. Fermented foods are an easy and inexpensive way to boost your health and naturally improve your digestion.

Nov 18 | ʻUlu
9:00am-12:00pm 

Participants will learn how to prepare ʻulu in traditional Micronesian methods.

KILOHANA KOHALA

“Kilohana'' is a compound word derived from two Hawaiian language words: “kilo” meaning to observe carefully and “hana” meaning work. Please join us in these workshops featuring arts & crafts led by local Hawaiian craftsmen. 

Kilohana Kohala is a series of 3 workshops offered through the remainder of the year on the second Saturday of even months (August, October, December):

Aug 12 | Hīnaʻi
9:00am-12:00pm 
The workshop focuses on recapturing one of the traditional methods of fishing, hina’i. Learn how to build a fish trap out of 'ie 'ie vines or Pandanus aerial roots.

Oct 14 | Lauhala
9:00am-12:00pm
Participants will learn the process of lauhala and instructions of weaving a bracelet and handheld fan. Lauhala weaving has been in every Hawaiian family since the beginning of time — for thousands of years

Dec 9 | Christmas Wreath
9:00am-12:00pm
Participants will engage in creating a Christmas wreath for the holiday season using foliage from our own backyard.
